listen to: Of Course It Hurts, It Always Does
Arnold de Boer deploying guitar and sampler for an almighty bout of crazily high energy songs – urgent lyrics over guitar, roughshod beats and grimy bass lines. Joyfully obstinate, wonderfully bonkers.
Since 2008 Zea is Arnold (living in Amsterdam, Holland) transforming his wide variety of influences (such as hiphop, techno, noise and (pop-)music from all over the globe) into his very own style.
He re-arranges and mixes his influences until the fragments fall into an exciting new form of song. At first maybe not manifest, but behind subtle structures and strange chord-changes a catchy song always shows through.
Ultimately rich in expressing different moods in an electro-acoustic environment the songs are to-the-point, with a head and a tail. Energy, surprise, excitement and some nice moments of tranquillity are fed by playful inspiration. Zea shows in a ghostly-carousel whirl of samples and melodies with passion that popmusic still has unlimited possibilities and with that the beauty of it: originality caught in a unique form.
